You will be joining one of our Live Studios, working on Paper.io 2.

With Paper.io2, we’re building an iconic game that players will never forget!

We're a small team of excellent people who take care of everything from ideas to testing, and we intend to grow while maintaining our high standards.

  • Over the next 1 to 2 years, we want to turn Paper.io2 from a successful casual game into a deeper, more competitive live game

  • The goal is to create a territory game where players can progress in their own way, compete meaningfully, and stay engaged over time

  • Backend will be key to support this vision through stronger progression, regular events, live operations, and scalable game systems

Role

  • Own and build backend-driven features for the game

  • Work closely with game designers, client developers, product, and data from feature design to launch and iteration

  • Help us build scalable systems for progression, events, competition, social features, and live ops

  • Bring strong technical ownership and challenge product/design choices when needed to make features scalable and robust

  • Reuse and extend Voodoo’s backend platform when relevant, while making sure Paper.io2 can move fast

Profile

  • 5+ years of backend development experience

  • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals

  • Extreme fluency in Golang

  • Mastery of SQL and NoSQL

  • Background in high-scale systems

  • Understanding of Unix-like environments

  • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams

  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of solving complex problems related to scalability, performance, and integration in high-stakes environments.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing teams and interfacing effectively with various stakeholders.

  • Ability to be self sufficient and work autonomously.

  • A deep interest in game development is a plus.
