About the team
Data Engineering owns Veriff's analytical data platforms: a Data Warehouse (AWS Redshift, dbt, Airflow, Cube) and a Data Lake (S3, Glue, Athena) running across EU and US regions. We serve analysts, data scientists, ML, and product teams. We are a small, senior team based mostly in Tallinn. Because Veriff handles identity data, our job is to make data easy to use while keeping it secure, compliant, and cost-efficient.
The opportunity
We are moving towards a governed lakehouse that teams can use self-service. You will join our Data Engineering team and work closely with senior engineers. Your initial focus will be governance across both platforms: access control, handling of personal data, data lifecycle and deletion, and platform cost. You will own projects end-to-end, with support and mentoring from the team.
What you'll achieve in your first 3 months
- Learn how Veriff works and how data flows from our product into the Data Lake and Data Warehouse
- Get comfortable with our architecture and tooling, and ship your first changes to production
- Start your first project in data governance or cost optimization
What you'll achieve by 6 months
- Deliver your first project end-to-end
- Help keep Data Warehouse costs flat or lower through query and compute tuning
- Become a go-to person for data governance across the Data Lake and Warehouse
What you'll bring — essential
- Experience building and running production data pipelines
- Strong SQL and Python
- Hands-on experience with a cloud data platform, ideally AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift)
- Experience working with sensitive or personal data, and a security-first mindset
- Ownership: You take a project from idea to production and communicate clearly along the way
Nice to have
- Redshift, Lake Formation, or lakehouse / open table formats (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi)
- dbt and Apache Airflow
- GDPR data deletion, data lifecycle, or metadata/catalog tools
- Flexibility to work from home
- Stock options that ensure your share in our success
- Extra recharge days on top of your annual vacation
- Extensive medical, dental, and vision insurance to ensure you’re feeling great physically and mentally
- Learning and Development & Health and Sports budget that you are free to tailor to your own needs
- Four weeks of fully paid sabbatical leave after reaching your 5th work anniversary
