Since 2015, we have set ourselves a mission to simplify payroll for SMBs and enable employers and employees to grow together. We are a European company operating from 3 main countries (France, Spain, and the UK) where we are supporting over 20,000 clients.

Creating a fulfilling work environment and culture is also a core mission at PayFit, and our day-to-day work philosophy is reflected in our four values:

Why this role, why now

AI is already embedded across Payfit’s operations. Now we’re doubling down and scaling it as a business-critical capability. We're redesigning high-value workflows so our teams execute faster, with greater accuracy and consistency — and we're doing it with direct CEO sponsorship.

To scale this reliably, we need engineers who blend product sense with strong software fundamentals: people who can go from an ambiguous business problem to a production solution that users actually adopt. You'll partner directly with business owners, integrate with our core systems, and iterate based on real usage and quality signals. The goal: ship production solutions that measurably improve service quality and execution speed across Payfit.

The team

You'll join a dedicated AI Enablement team of 4, plus a team lead reporting directly to the CEO. The team's mandate is focused delivery - identifying the highest-value workflow opportunities across Payfit, building AI agents that connect to our business systems, and iterating until solutions become part of everyday work.

You'll work in close, structured collaboration with the Application Framework team in Engineering - co-building shared permissions, approved integrations, evaluation frameworks, monitoring, and human interaction patterns. The focus team owns workflow delivery and adoption; Application Framework owns shared infrastructure and technical standards.
Success is measured in net time saved, cycle time reduction, quality improvements, sustained usage, and operating cost.

What you'll do

  • Partner with business users to map workflows and turn needs into AI-powered solutions that teams actually adopt day-to-day.

  • Design and implement integrations with APIs, applications, and data sources; build agent orchestration, retrieval, and custom capabilities.

  • Ship production-ready AI features with evaluation, monitoring, exception handling, and human review where needed to ensure accuracy and safety.

  • Prioritise opportunities with named business owners, clear baselines, and selection criteria focused on value, feasibility, and readiness.

  • Iterate using user feedback and quality/time-saved signals to continuously raise reliability and adoption.

  • Co-develop reusable components, permissions, and human interaction patterns with the Application Framework team to scale safely.

  • Increase autonomy in business teams by creating templates, training local champions, and establishing clear ownership for ongoing operation and improvement.

What you'll bring

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including API and systems design.

  • Proven hands-on experience building with LLMs, agents, tools, or AI workflow automation in production.

  • Product sense: you can move from an ambiguous business problem to a reliable, maintainable production solution.

  • Care for security, permissions, evaluation, observability, and maintainability in AI-enabled systems.

  • Comfort working directly with non-technical users and collaborating across engineering and business teams.

  • Ownership mindset across the full cycle: discovery, delivery, production quality, and iteration.

Our hiring process

  • Step 1 — Quick catch-up with Talent Acquisition

  • Step 2 — 45' meeting with our CTO

  • Step 3 — 60–90' Technical Interview

  • Step 4 — 45' Final Interview
