Our vision
Our vision is to combine passion, expertise, and technology to provide best-in-class investment solutions and advice that protects and grows client wealth over time.
Our Core Values:
We’ve built our business on three Principles:
- Relationships are our first asset: We’re one team, built on trust, honesty, and transparency. We value our relationships above all else.
- Trust drives success: We give each other the space to grow. We empower our employees to succeed, so they can make a real impact.
- Our customers dream big, just like us: We see the bigger picture and we make sure our customers see it, too. We’re always focused on the best outcomes for our clients and for each other, no matter what the goal, or how big the dream
What this means in practice:
At Moneyfarm, our success comes from the impact each of us makes. We move with purpose, urgency, and ambition, focused on delivering outcomes that matter for our clients and our business. Everyone is empowered to take ownership, challenge the status quo, and turn bold ideas into results. As we evolve, we embrace AI as a catalyst for sharper thinking, smarter decisions, and even greater impact.
Our diversity makes this possible. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences fuel our creativity and drive better decisions — it’s our competitive edge. We value people for who they are and their unique strengths: that's why we offer flexible ways of working to support them in doing their best work.
About the role:
Moneyfarm operates a Bubble structure: cross-functional, outcome-driven teams that bring together Product, Tech, Commercial, and other disciplines around a shared KPI set. This role sits in the Partners Bubble, which owns the outcomes that grow Moneyfarm's B2B2C business - delivering our platform, products and engagement capabilities through institutional banking and financial services partners.
Moneyfarm’s Partners Engineering team is responsible for building and evolving the B2B platform that powers our strategic partnerships with major banks and financial institutions across Europe. The team designs and delivers the integrations, product gateways, and shared services that allow partner organisations to offer Moneyfarm’s digital wealth management capabilities to their customers, embedded within the partner’s own digital channels.
As Lead Backend Engineer, you will be the technical reference point for the team. You will own the architecture and technical execution of the backend services that power our B2B partnerships: partner onboarding flows, product subscription and order execution, portfolio management APIs, suitability and compliance integrations, digital signature flows, billing pipelines, and data exchange with partner systems. You will work closely with the Engineering Manager to translate complex business and regulatory requirements into reliable, scalable solutions, and you will mentor and guide backend engineers on the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture and system design for the Partners backend platform, ensuring alignment with Moneyfarm’s architectural principles and long-term strategy
- Lead the design and implementation of complex integrations with partner banks, third-party financial providers, and internal Moneyfarm services
- Act as the default go-to person for technically leading backend initiatives, proactively removing blockers and making architectural decisions, even when they extend beyond your core technical background
- Define and drive the API strategy for partner-facing services: contract design, versioning, authentication, and documentation
- Collaborate with Product, Business, and partner stakeholders to understand requirements, assess technical feasibility, and identify risks and trade-offs early
- Coordinate with the Engineering Manager to scope work, manage delivery risks, and ensure predictable execution from design through deployment
- Mentor and support backend engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and design guidance, fostering their technical growth and career development
- Contribute to the definition and refinement of engineering standards, patterns, and canonical examples that benefit the broader engineering organisation
- Participate in cross-team technical discussions and architectural meetings to ensure consistency across Moneyfarm’s platform
- Exhibit excellent judgement in balancing tactical risks, time to market, and long-term technical quality
- Monitor the overall stability and performance of the systems under your domain, and proactively suggest improvements
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus
- Deep expertise in at least one of: Java or Go, with willingness to work across the team’s stack.
- Hands-on experience using agentic AI tools as a core development workflow: from daily acceleration (code generation, refactoring, test scaffolding) to writing and validating feature specs, maintaining business-specific documentation, and building entire systems from architectural specifications. You know when to trust, challenge, and rewrite AI output.
- A product engineering mindset enabled by AI: ability to move autonomously from problem space to working implementation, using AI to draft specs, prototype solutions, and ship production-grade code with minimal hand-holding.
- Proven experience designing, building and integrating distributed systems, microservices architectures, and API-driven platforms
- Strong knowledge of software and data architecture design patterns, including fault tolerance, availability, scalability, security, and data quality
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred): ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, CI/CD pipelines
- Track record of technically leading projects from start to end, with a proven ability to reduce complexity and ship reliably
- Experience working in regulated environments (financial services, banking, insurance) is a strong plus
- Familiarity with B2B integration patterns: SSO, partner API gateways, batch processing, data reconciliation
- Effective communication skills: ability to clearly set expectations, communicate trade-offs, and lead technical discussions across functions (Product, Design, Business, external partners)
- Demonstrated mentorship ability: you’ve helped engineers grow through code reviews, pairing, and constructive feedback
- Italian language proficiency (many of our partners and stakeholders communicate in Italian)
Nice to have
- Experience with insurance/pension product domains
- Familiarity with financial systems: order management, portfolio management, billing, reconciliation
