We are seeking a passionate Staff QA Engineer – Retail Platforms to help assure the quality, reliability and performance of our critical retail technology estate, including Point of Sale (POS), Self-Checkout and payment integrations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, building scalable test automation frameworks and influencing quality standards across large-scale retail platforms. You'll combine strong technical expertise with a passion for mentoring others, driving continuous improvement and helping raise the engineering bar across M&S.

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Own end-to-end quality outcomes across key retail platforms including POS and Self-Checkout, ensuring reliability, performance, security and resilience across transaction flows.
  • Shape quality strategy and engineering standards for retail technology solutions, influencing architecture, automation frameworks and long-term platform direction.
  • Drive operational excellence by improving testing practices, supporting incident investigation, reducing repeat failures and enhancing platform stability.
  • Lead and mentor engineers through quality best practice, code reviews, automation excellence and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Champion DevOps and continuous testing practices, supporting automated delivery pipelines, production releases and out-of-hours platform support when required.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Extensive QA engineering experience within retail technology environments, including POS, Self-Checkout, till applications, payments and integrated retail ecosystems.
  • Strong expertise designing and maintaining automated testing frameworks, including BDD and data-driven automation approaches using tools such as Selenium, Playwright and TestComplete.
  • Proven experience with API testing and service virtualisation using tools such as Postman and Rest-Assured, alongside strong programming skills in Java or JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms, observability, CI/CD practices and monitoring tools such as Azure, GitHub Actions and Dynatrace.
  • A passion for quality engineering, problem-solving and mentoring others, combined with experience working in Agile delivery environments and supporting production releases.
