As part of our Booking Holdings Romania team, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the world’s leading provider of online travel, with a mission of making it easier for everyone to experience the world through five-primary consumer facing brands: Booking.com, Priceline, Agoda, KAYAK and OpenTable. 

 

We are part of the Core Platforms - Technical Operations department and our main focus is to equip other Booking.com engineering teams with the tools and platforms in order to deliver fast, reliable and state of the art services to our customers. Our focus is mainly on enabling reliability through the delivery of Chaos Engineering solutions that can automate and enable teams to measure, explore and deliver better, more reliable software.

 

The technology stack of the platform and tools used within the team are: Java (Spring Boot), Python, MySQL, AWS RDS, React / TypeScript, Queuing / Event Driven architecture, Kubernetes, Gitlab & Harness (CI/CD), Terraform, Grafana, Jira, and more. The platform will integrate with a broad range of architecture types and platforms so you will also be exposed to technologies: Kafka streams clusters, Redis, Cassandra, AWS, Serverless and more.

 

 

This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designing and building software applications by using relevant development languages and applying knowledge of systems, services and tools appropriate for the business area

  • Owning a service end to end by actively monitoring application health and performance, setting and monitoring relevant metrics and act accordingly when violated

  • Identify and resolve live production issues by mitigating the customer impact within SLA

  • Evaluating possible architecture solutions by taking into account cost, business requirements, technology requirements and emerging technologies

  • Identifying opportunities for process, system and structural improvements (i.e performance gains) by examining and evaluating current process flows, methods and standards

  • Drive and implement solutions for automations or new functionalities in the reliability tools  that can proactively prevent incidents or improve the overall reliability of systems at scale

  • Delivering clear, well-structured, and meaningful information to a target audience by using suitable communication mediums and language tailored to the audience


Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years software development experience.

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with one or more server-side programming languages (Java would be a plus)

  • Experience building interactive front-end web UIs with HTML, CSS and modern web development frameworks, like React.

  • Experience with distributed systems and solid understanding of Service Oriented Architecture, Microservices, Event Driven Architectures, High Availability systems and infrastructure 

  • Experience of working on products that impact a large customer base is an advantage

  • Excellent communication; written and spoken and experience working with non-technical stakeholders

  • Previous experience with cloud platforms like AWS is a plus
