We are looking for passionate Software Engineers to join our Bucharest Centre of Excellence and build the next generation of scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems.
The Fullstack Software Engineer within Booking Holdings designs, builds, and evolves end-to-end software solutions that power Booking Holdings’ high-traffic platforms, delivering scalable, reliable, secure, and intuitive experiences for millions of travelers worldwide. Success means owning the full software lifecycle across frontend applications, backend services, and cloud infrastructure, from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production support, while raising the engineering bar through mentorship, code reviews, and technical leadership across teams. The role exists to drive technical excellence and scalable software architecture within the Bucharest Centre of Excellence, supporting Booking Holdings’ consumer brands by providing specialized engineering talent and best practices that accelerate delivery across the organization.
This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties
Designs and evolves scalable, resilient full-stack systems, spanning React-based user interfaces and distributed backend services, applying sound architectural principles and technical trade-offs, in order to deliver fast, reliable, and delightful experiences to millions of users.
Owns the full software lifecycle of end-to-end product features, from UX and API design through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and production support, following engineering best practices and operational standards, in order to deliver reliable, production-ready software across the stack.
Improves system reliability and end-user performance across front-end and backend layers through observability, automation, and operational excellence, aligned with cloud-native and SRE practices, in order to reduce incidents, minimize mean time to recovery, and optimize core user-facing metrics.
Conducts code reviews and technical design discussions with engineering peers on both client-side and server-side work, in line with internal engineering standards and guidelines, in order to raise the engineering bar and ensure consistent code quality across teams.
Mentors and coaches fellow engineers on full-stack development, modern web practices, and AI-assisted engineering, guided by team development plans and industry best practices, in order to accelerate their technical growth and strengthen team capability across the stack.
Partners with designers, product managers, back-end engineers, and architects on cross-team initiatives, influencing technical and product decisions within the framework of the Sustainable Team Principles, in order to drive alignment and successful delivery of strategic, user-facing projects.
Role Qualifications and Requirements
Knowledge
Deep knowledge of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem on the backend, combined with strong front-end expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
Strong understanding of distributed systems design, including microservices, service-oriented architectures, and event-driven architectures that power modern web applications.
Solid grounding in cloud-native engineering on AWS, including load balancing, API gateways, resilience patterns, observability, and container orchestration.
Knowledge of data and event-streaming technologies such as Kafka Streams, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis, and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), as well as API design patterns (REST, GraphQL) that bridge front-end and back-end systems.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and container platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless, and Terraform, alongside modern front-end build and tooling ecosystems (e.g., Node.js, bundlers, package managers).
Understanding of CI/CD, observability, and monitoring toolchains such as GitLab, Harness, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, applied across both server-side and client-side stacks.
Awareness of security principles, secure coding practices, and common threat models in large-scale systems, including front-end concerns such as XSS, CSRF, and safe handling of user data.
Knowledge of modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) and how to apply them effectively in a professional full-stack engineering workflow.
