Job Description:

The Challenge

Airbus Helicopters is accelerating its transition towards a Software Defined Infrastructure. We are looking for an Infrastructure & Automation Engineer to join our Cloud & DevOps team. Your mission is to drive our automation vision, moving away from manual operations toward a fully automated, robust, and service-oriented ecosystem across Private, Public (AWS, GCP), and future Sovereign Cloud environments.

You will hold end-to-end accountability for our virtualization hosting infrastructures and our multi-cloud landing zones. You will not just manage infrastructures; you will design solutions and ensure their evolution to meet critical business, hosting and security requirements. You will also support specific infrastructure layers of our Resilience strategy, contributing to the automation of our recovery environments.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Eliminate Toil through Automation: Following core SRE principles, your primary mandate is to identify and eliminate "toil"—manual, repetitive labor that scales with system growth. You will be responsible for architecting this automation framework entirely from the ground up, starting from a blank slate and leveraging LEAN principles to drive maximum efficiency. You will prioritize high-impact engineering tasks that systematically reduce manual work and human error across our cloud ecosystems.

  • Platform Engineering & GitOps Standardization: You will act as a Platform Engineer to define infrastructure deployment standards. You will establish automated infrastructure patterns using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and GitOps principles to ensure agility and total consistency across on-premise environments, Public Cloud (AWS, GCP), and upcoming Sovereign Cloud initiatives.

  • Sovereign Cloud Integration: Participate in the design and technical onboarding of our future Sovereign/Trusted Cloud platform. You will ensure that automation standards (IaC, security scanning) are successfully ported to this highly secure environment to support military and restricted data workloads.

  • Operational Excellence & Continuous Security Patching: Ensure the robustness, security, and compliance of IT assets. You will lead the continuous follow-up and automation of security patching across the infrastructure. You will steer hardware providers, manage asset lifecycles, and guarantee the completeness of technical information within the CMDB (ServiceNow).

  • Support for Resilience & Recovery: Contribute to the technical implementation of specific infrastructure layers for the Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE). You will focus on the automation of virtual machine lifecycles and recovery workflows within the Zero-Trust vault to support the restoration of our Minimum Viable Company (MVC).

  • Team Synergy : As a core member of the Cloud & DevOps team, you will work on Private, Public, and Sovereign Cloud topics, ensuring continuity of expertise within the team. You will align infrastructure automation with the DevOps mindset of the OCP (OpenShift) team, leveraging shared platforms to ensure cross-team consistency. You will work closely with and rely on subject matter experts from neighboring teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions.

Your Profile

  • Experience: ~8-10 years in Infrastructure Engineering with a "Service" mindset and the ability to navigate complex, high-constraint environments.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Virtualization: Mastery of Nutanix and VMware, knowledge of the other virtualization landscape options (OpenStack, OpenShift Virt).

    • Automation: Proficiency in virtualization automation (Terraform, PowerCLI, Puppet, ARIA Automation, Ansible)

    • DevOps : Proven experience with GitOps principles, IaC principles, and familiarity with Public ecosystems (AWS, GCP, and future trusted cloud initiatives)

    • Containers: Understanding of container orchestration (Kubernetes)

    • Observability & Lifecycle: Knowledge of monitoring tools (Zabbix, Dynatrace, Grafana) and management suites (SCCM, RedHat Satellite, ServiceNow).

    • Hardware & Network : Understanding of enterprise servers, storage architectures (SAN/vSAN), network architectures (LAN/WAN)

  • Mindset & Soft Skills: Service-oriented with a focus on quality and simplicity. You possess a strong team spirit, the ability to work autonomously in critical situations, and a solid understanding of the ITIL framework.

  • Communication: Fluent in English and French. You are a results-oriented professional capable of challenging providers and providing clear support to internal teams. You will need to demonstrate strong negotiation and alignment skills to coordinate effectively with the wider Hosting & Cloud Services department, ensuring technical consistency and shared goals.

Why Join Us?

You will hold a strategic position where your technical impact and product vision are directly visible. This role offers the unique opportunity to manage the convergence between traditional infrastructure, public cloud, and the next generation of sovereign automation while protecting the digital sovereignty of Airbus Helicopters.
